Adoption Policy (as of January, 2009)
Due to the new breed ownership restrictions in the
revised
US Army pet housing policy, issued January of 2009, any dogs
that fit the following descriptions cannot be adopted to members of
the US Army and/or their families: ANY and ALL Pit Bull, American
Staffordshire, Bull Terrier and Bull Dog breeds, Rottweilers,
Doberman Pinschers, or Chows. This includes both purebred and
mixed-bred dogs. |

Ano'i (ah-no-ee) is a laid
back 3-year old pit bull dog who sleeps for 9 hours per night and
naps during the day while waiting for his human to come home. He was
hit by a car, which left him blind in one eye, but other than that
he is quite healthy. He has fantastic bursts of puppy energy and
especially likes playing tug-of-war with old towels and squeaky
toys. He is gentle with humans (although he sometimes accidentally
runs into you because he's blind in one eye!) and has a fun,
inquisitive personality. He learns tricks quickly and has a funny
way of speaking when he gets excited. He LOVES his daily walks and
can go on hikes for a couple hours if he has water. He is so well
behaved that he will stay still for baths even though he hates
getting wet. He is a big snuggler and always attempts to sneak on
your lap one paw at a time if he doesn’t feel like he is getting
enough attention. Ano'i would do best in a home without cats. If you

| Say hello to
DJ! DJ is an 8 year old standard
dachshund. He weighs 17 pounds. He is current on his shots
and he has been neutered. DJ was paralyzed for almost a year
after falling off a couch, but after some chiropractic
treatment, he is able to walk again!! DJ is still a “special
needs” dog and will require an owner who has the time and
patience to work with him as he re-learns how navigate
through his surroundings. DJ loves people and is very
obedient. He gets along well with other dogs and with cats.

terrier is named Mickey! He is
about 4 years old, weighs 25 pounds, has been neutered and
micro-chipped and is current on his shots. Mickey is still a
little shy around people he doesn’t know, but he is becoming
more outgoing every day. He loves tummy rubs! He also enjoys
going on walks. Mickey is house-trained and is learning
basic obedience commands. He gets along well with other

guy is named Sam. Sam is a 3 year
old Sharpei mix. He weighs about 55 pounds, has been
neutered and micro-chipped, and is current on his shots. He
knows basic obedience commands and is house-trained. Sam is
a high-energy dog that loves to play. Whether it is chasing
a ball, playing with his stuffed toys, or enticing his
favorite human to play a game of tug-o-war, Sam is an
enthusiastic participant! Inside the house Sam wants to
snuggle and “talk” to his humans. He uses a variety of
sounds to communicate. Sam lives in a home with other dogs,
but is still working on his social skills around dogs he
doesn’t know. He would probably do best in a home without

Lacey! Lacey is a 9 year old
Chihuahua mix that was found wandering in a grocery store
parking lot on the North Shore. Lacey is a mellow dog that
wants to please her favorite humans so she does very well
with obedience commands. She absolutely loves kids and likes
to join in their play. She enjoys riding in the car and
going for a walk. If you want to be Lacey’s best friend,

| Meet Eve!
She is a shepherd mix who is about two years old. Eve was
quite skinny when found as a stray on the North Shore, but
she has put on some weight and now looks great! She weighs
about 60 pounds. Eve is really active. She loves to run and
play and she is just great with kids. Such a sweetheart! Eve

Murphy! He is seven months old,
he weighs about 25 pounds, and he is probably a
collie/sharpei mix. He has been neutered and micro-chipped
and is current on his shots. As puppies go, Murphy is pretty
mellow! He likes to play with other dogs and he loves to
follow his favorite humans around the house. Murphy is
recovering from surgery after being hit by a car. He will
probably have a slight limp, but that shouldn’t slow him

Kai is a two year old heeler mix. He weighs about 35 pounds,

Kai is loyal and sweet-tempered. He loves to go to the beach
and go on walks and, typical of his breed, he wants to
“herd” kids and other dogs. Kai is both crate- and
house-trained and very obedient. He loves to follow his

Tony! Tony is an American Cocker
Spaniel. He is probably about 10 years old but you would
never know it if you watched him chase a tennis ball or
happily trot along on a walk. He loves people—especially
those that scratch under his chin or behind his ears—and he

about 12 pounds. He is neutered and micro-chipped and is
current on his shots. Bruno is an exceptional cuddler. He
loves to follow his favorite humans around the house and
cuddle whenever possible. He has to be the softest dog you
will ever pet! He lives for human interaction and, of
course, any toy that squeaks! He does well with other dogs.
Like most basenji mixes, Bruno is high energy. Be ready to
exercise and play with him every day! If you can provide
mental challenges, such as doggie puzzles and games, that

a forever family with the patience to help him develop more
confidence. Riley has decided that treats are a good thing

one year old Chihuahua. He weighs about 6 pounds, is current

Bandit absolutely loves people—of all ages—and he gets along

puppy, Bandit suffered a wrist injury that left him with a
permanent limp, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. If

| Meet Kaleo!
Kaleo is a Chihuahua/terrier mix. He is about one year old,
weighs about 14 pounds, and is house-trained. He is current
on his shots and will be neutered and micro-chipped soon.
Kaleo is heartworm positive and will start treatment in
early September. Kaleo came to Hawaii Dog Foundation as a
timid and vulnerable puppy. He is making progress with his
foster family and learning the simple pleasures in life such
as going for walks and—aaaah—the joy of peeing on trees!
Each day he becomes more trusting. He is wonderful with
kids, including a four year old who wants to play with him
like he was a rag doll. Kaleo just grins and bears it—happy
to have the attention! This little guy is a big lovebug! He
will bring an abundance of love and joy to his forever home.
